Established in Article XV of the Western Province Bylaws, the Achievement Commission recommends candidates for most of the Western Province's awards, for criteria and specifics reference the information at the bottom of this page.


Note: All Guide Right awards are processed through the Guide Right Chairman, not the Achievement Commission.

DEADLINE


The 2026 Western Province Achievement Awards are now being accepted. Please note the Western Province will be held on April 1-5, 2026, In Las Vegas, NV. The chapter's award submissions must be received by Sunday, February 28, 2026, at 11:59 pm. Please reference the last section of this page for the criteria for each award.

Western Province Alumni Awards and Criteria 

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.


  • JAMES L. BRADFORD AWARD

    resented to a Brother for outstanding service to the Western Province.

    CRITERIA:

    At least five (5) consecutive years of outstanding service to the Western Province.

    Must have been in good standing at all levels during those years.

    Must have registered for, attended and actively participated in Province Council meetings with at least 70% attendance during those years.


    The Achievement Commission will recommend recipient to the Western Province Polemarch for final approval.


  • RANDALL C. BACON ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

    presented to a Brother for outstanding achievement                as judged by the Achievement Commission.

     CRITERIA:

    Achievement which brings favorable recognition to the Fraternity.

    Involvement in:

    Community activities

    Intrafraternal activities

    Other achievements and involvement in church, athletics, business, educational, civic, etc.

    3.    Current financial member of an alumni chapter and in good standing with the Fraternity.


  • JAMES O. WHALEY ALUMNI CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD

    presented to the most outstanding small, medium and large alumni chapters as judged by the Achievement Commission.

     CRITERIA:

    Involvement in:

    Community activities

    Intrafraternal activities

    Alumni/Undergraduate activities

    Reclamation/intake

    National Pan-Hellenic Council activities

      2.     Chapter must be in good standing with the Fraternity.


  • KEVIN D. KINSEY COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

    presented to an alumni chapter for outstanding community service as judged by the Achievement Commission.

     CRITERIA: May include social action, education, youth enrichment, community development, etc.


  • EDWARD L. SHELTON JR. RECLAMATION AWARD

    presented to the alumni chapter with the highest percentage of “reclaimed Brothers” in relation to the chapter’s current financial membership. (Reclaimed Brother: any member currently in good standing with an alumni chapter that was not financial with that chapter during the preceding fraternal fiscal year.


Western Province Undergraduate Awards and Criteria

  • E. LIONEL DAVIS UNDERGRADUATE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

    presented to an undergraduate Brother for the most outstanding accomplishments as judged by the Achievement Commission.

    CRITERIA:

    Involvement in:

    Community activities

    University activities

    Achievement which brings favorable recognition to the Fraternity

    Other activities (church, athletics, etc.)

    Must be a current financial member of an undergraduate chapter, and in good standing with the Fraternity at all levels.


  • PETER BUTLER JR. UNDERGRADUATE CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD

    presented to the most outstanding undergraduate chapter as judged by the Achievement Commission.

    CRITERIA:  

    Involvement in:

    Intrafraternal activities

    Membership intake 

    Community involvement

    Alumni/ Undergraduate involvement

    Interfraternal/Panhellenic Council involvement

    Chapter must be in good standing with the Fraternity at all levels.


  • CURTIS R. SILVERS JR. CIVIC MERIT SCHOLAR AWARD

    presented to an undergraduate Brother for exemplary civic involvement on and off campus as judged by the Achievement Commission.  The recipient will receive a $500 scholarship award.

     CRITERIA:

    1.    Involvement in:

    University and community activities

    Achievement which brings favorable recognition to the Fraternity

    2.    Must provide an official transcript (no sealed transcript required) 

    3.    G.P.A. must be a minimum of 2.5 in a 4.0 system.

    4.    Evaluation period is the semester preceding the Province Council

    5.    Must be a current financial member of an undergraduate chapter, and in good standing with                   the Fraternity at all levels

    6.    Must be a full-time registered student

    7.    Must provide the following supplemental material:

    Describe one specific example of your leadership (250-word limit)

    Describe a recent particularly satisfying public service activity (200-word limit)


  • WILLIAM J. MEREDITH OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD (G.P.A.)

    presented to the undergraduate Brother with the highest G.P.A. among sophomores (31+ units), juniors (62+ units), and seniors (91+ units).

    One of the three recipients will also receive a $500 scholarship award as judged by the Achievement Commission.

          CRITERIA:  

    Must provide an official transcript (no sealed transcript required)

    G.P.A. must be a minimum of 3.0 in a 4.0 system.

    Evaluation period is the semester preceding the Province Council

    Must be a current financial member of an undergraduate chapter, and in good standing with the Fraternity at all levels

    5.    Must be a full-time registered student

      6.    Must provide the following supplemental material:

    What do you believe is the most pressing issue in your community, our country or the world? Why is this issue compelling to you? What is your proposed solution, and what are the major obstacles/implementation challenges? (500-word limit)


  • OUTSTANDING CHAPTER G.P.A. AWARD

    presented to the undergraduate chapter with the highest G.P.A.  among all undergraduate chapters.

          CRITERIA:  

    Chapter Advisor must send a G.P.A. notice to the Achievement Commission Chairman

    G.P.A. must be a minimum of 2.5 in a 4.0 system

    G.P.A. notice must contain at least 7 financial members

    Chapter must be in good standing with the Fraternity at all levels


  • STERLING DOVER SCRAPBOOK AWARD

    presented to the undergraduate or alumni chapter with the best documentation of chapter activities as judged by the Achievement Commission.

     CRITERIA:

    1.    Scrapbooks must be submitted electronically, in a format chosen by the submitting chapter

    2.    Scrapbooks must cover the period from the preceding Province Council to the month of the current Province Council


  • SIMEON HOLLOWAY SONGFEST AWARD

    presented to the winners of the vocal competition during the Undergraduate Luncheon of each Province Council, as judged by the Brothers in attendance.  Each chapter will sing two songs during the competition, one of which must be the Kappa Hymn.

  • ARTHUR ASHE HUMANITARIAN AWARD

    presented during the Province Council Public Meeting to an

    individual committed to improving the welfare of citizens in his or her community. The award recipient is

    determined by Province Council Host Chapter in consultation with the Province Polemarch.

  • TOM BRADLEY COMMUNITY SERVICE & DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN AWARD

    presented during the Province

    Council Public Meeting to selected individuals with a minimum of 5 years of dedicated service to the community

    in the area of community development, youth enrichment, senior citizen care, education, business, religion or

    politics. The award recipients are determined by Province Council Host Chapter in consultation with the Province

    Polemarch.

  • JOHNNIE COCHRAN SOCIAL ACTION AWARD

    presented during the Province Council Public Meeting to a

    selected individual or business entity that has demonstrated a commitment to social action in the community.

    The recipient of this $500 monetary award is determined by Province Council Host Chapter in consultation with

    the Province Polemarch.

  • WESTERN PROVINCE SOCIAL ACTION DONATIONS

    presented during the Province Council Public Meeting,

    traditionally to the local NAACP and United Negro College Fund chapters. Changes to the recipients of these

    $400 monetary awards are determined by Province Council Host Chapter in consultation with the Province

    Polemarch.

  • ROBERT L. HARRIS, ESQ. PROVINCE POLEMARCH’S AWARD

    presented during the Closed Banquet for

    outstanding service to the Western Province. Award recipient(s) determined by the Province Polemarch.

  • SAMUEL B. KNIGHT LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

    presented during the Closed Banquet for outstanding

    service to the Western Province. Award recipient must have 25 years in good standing in the Fraternity, 10

    years in good standing in the Western Province, held an elected chapter position and an elected or appointed

    Province position, and demonstrated unwavering commitment to the Province and the Fraternity. The

    frequency and recipient of this award is determined by the Province Polemarch.
